The runway of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka will be closed for three and a half hours every day for two weeks from 1 October for maintenance work.
During this time, operations of all flights would be suspended, HSIA Executive Director Captain Kamrul Islam told the Daily Sun.
He said the runway would be closed from 1am to 4:30am for the maintenance work related to ILS Category-2.
Captain Kamrul said this is one of the normal procedures of the airport's flight operations. Runway centerline lights, touchdown zone lights, installation of stopway, and lighting system for runway-14 and 32 will be examined over the period, he said.
A notam has already been issued to inform all airlines and organisations concerned in this regard, he added.
The HSIA official also said that the airport authorities are advising the respective airlines to inform in advance about their respective flights and the passengers to reconfirm their flight schedules. If necessary, he suggested calling the airport call centre at 13600.
Earlier, the runway of the Dhaka airport was closed from 10 December 2022 to 10 June 2023 from 6pm to 2am daily for the construction of the new high-speed connecting taxiway at the third terminal.
