The Jahangirnagar University (JU) has formed a committee to investigate JU chief security officer Sudipta Shaheen’s alleged role in altering lawsuit documents in connection with Chhatra League leader Shamim Molla’s death in mob attacks.
The probe committee would also look into the inefficiency, indifference and negligence of the security wing officials in preventing the gruesome death of Shamim Molla on 18 September.
An office order signed by acting Registrar ABM Azizur Rahman confirmed the formation of the committee on Friday.
Earlier, on 25 September, an administrative meeting was held and authorities decided to file a case with Ashulia police station over the mob killing based on a preliminary investigation report prepared by the JU proctorial body.
However, an allegation arose that chief security officer Sudipta Shaheen violated the administrative decision by altering the sequence in the accused list when filing the killing case.
As a result, a five-member inquiry committee, headed by Prof Kh Lutful Elahi of the History Department, has been formed with a view to finalising a probe report over Sudipta’s alleged misdemeanour within 15 working days, according to Friday’s office order.
Meanwhile, another office order signed by Acting Registrar ABM Azizur Rahman stated that Sudipta Shaheen has been temporarily transferred to the Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC), JU Contingent office for the interest of investigation.
However, the current and former cadets of the contingent expressed anger over the administrative decision, alleging that a controversial person cannot become a part of the BNCC. The protesting cadets also demanded the authorities withdraw the office order immediately.
