A policeman was arrested with 35,000 pieces of Yaba pill from Cox’s Bazar on Sunday.

Officials of the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) also arrested the driver of the CNG-run auto-rickshaw carrying the cop.

The arrestees were identified as Constable Jahangir Alam, 50, son of Abu Bakar Siddique of Mymensingh district, while the auto-rickshaw driver was Shamsul Alam, 32, son of Amir Hossain of Ukiya upazila in Cox’s Bazar district.

Jahangir is posted at Dhaka District Judge Court. Earlier, he worked with the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) at Kutupalong Rohingya camp under the Ukhiya upazila.

DNC Cox’s Bazar Assistant Director (AD) Sirajul Mostafa said that being tipped off a team of the DNC intercepted the auto-rickshaw carrying Jahangir in Jhilongjha area of Cox’s Bazar district.

Jahangir tried to leave the spot, identifying himself as a policeman. But, the DNC officials still detained him after finding 35,000 pieces of Yaba tablets in his bag, said Sirajul Mostafa.

A case was filed with the Cox’s Bazar Model police station later over the issue, he added.
