A court in Dhaka on Friday placed police inspector Mazharul Islam on a five-day remand in a case lodged over the murder of Lord Hardinge Fazil Degree Madrasa student Arif in the capital's Jatrabari area on 19 July.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tahmina Haque passed the order as the police produced Mazharul before the court and pleaded to place him on a 10-day remand in the case.
The police inspector was arrested from the Armed Police Special Training Centre in Khagrachari on 17 September.
Mazharul was posted at Jatrabari police station during the Anti-discrimination Student Movement and was allegedly instrumental in carrying out indiscriminate shooting on the protesters in the Kutubkhali area. Arif was shot in his eye and succumbed to his injuries on 19 July.
The victim’s father, Md Yusuf, later filed the case with the police station.
