Students of Chittagong University (CU) have declared a complete shutdown on the campus, demanding the appointment of vice-chancellor (VC).
They made the announcement from a protest rally on the Shaheed Minar premises of the university on Tuesday.
CU student Habib Ullah Khaled conducted the rally addressed by Neyamat Ullah Farabi and Ahsan Ullah Hriday among others.
Farabi said academic activities of the university have been closed for a long time. But, various financial activities are going on amid the absence of VC, he alleged.
Apart from that, transfers of officers and employees have also been made, he said.
“We are announcing a complete shutdown on the campus until the notification of appointment of the VC is issued. From now on, the administrative building and the main two gates of the university will remain closed,” he said.
Later, the demonstrators locked the administrative building and the two entrances.
