Artist Amitab Sarker’s first solo painting exhibition titled “Im/material” is underway at Kala Kendra gallery in the capital’s Lalmatia area.
The artist has depicted his imagination through colours and showed how ordinary things can be extraordinary in the show “Im/material”.
Amitab Sarkar believes nature is the ultimate mentor of the art world. Following this, he uses create liberties to assign bright colours to detailed patterns that were inspired by what he had seen in his natural surroundings, devastation, and essence. The paintings of the exhibition ‘Im/material’ are based on the forms that he observed in nature, which were used as a starting point to create an imaginative, fragmented abstract work of art.
Born in 1992, Amitab Sarkar completed Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from Khulna University in 2016. After completing his BFA degree, he delved even more into his painting practice. And in 2021, he completed his MFA (Master’s Fine Art) in Painting at Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, India.
As Amitab grew up in a natural environment in the coastal regions of southern Bangladesh, he feels that the artistic exchange between nature and the artist opens up many opportunities. Through his “Im/material”, he also explores his relationship with nature, and his profound bond with clay.
In his career, Amitabh Sarker has participated in several local and international group art exhibitions, including International Studio Art Symposium “The Winter Art Show 2020”, All India Annual Art Exhibition, India, International art exhibition “Celebrating Mother Language in the Light of Art”, Dhaka, Bangladesh and Comprehensive Art work Assessment and Final Display Exhibition, Bangladesh.
