Sadharan Sonatani Peshajibi Forum (Saspefo) has demanded justice for Bangladeshi boy Jayanta Kumar Singh, 14, who was shot to death by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on 9 September, just eight days after the killing of Bangladeshi teenager Swarna Das.

In a protest note on Tuesday, the forum for professionals of the Hindu community in Bangladesh condemned the killing of Jayanta Kumar.

The Daily Sun also obtained a copy of the protest note signed by Avijit Sarker, a member and coordinator of Saspefo.

“Two extrajudicial killings within just a few days are painful for us. We cannot condone extrajudicial killings at the border in any way... we strongly believe that both countries Bangladesh and India will take visible and sustainable steps to stop extrajudicial killings on the border,” the forum said in its statement.

It also condemned the practice of indiscriminate firing along the border on mere criminal suspicion (without evidence).

Jayanta was gunned down by the BSF on the Kantivita border in Thakurgaon's Baliadangi upazila while his father Mohadev Kumar Singh, 38, of Fakirvita Belpukur, and Md Darbar Ali, 50, of Nitoldoba village in Baliadangi, were injured in the firing.

Earlier, Saspefo strongly protested and condemned the killing of Swarna Das.

On 1 September, the 13-year-old girl was shot and killed by the BSF along the Bangladesh-India border in Kulaura upazila of Moulvibazar while illegally trying to cross the border fence with her mother Sanjita Das and others to meet with his elder brother who is a resident of Tripura.
