Professor Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan officially took charge as the 20th Vice-Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Sunday.

The charge-taking ceremony was held around noon at the university's Senate Hall.

In his inaugural address, Professor Ahsan expressed deep gratitude to the President and Chancellor of the university, Mohammed Sahabuddin, as well as to the Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Mohammad Yunus, and the Education Adviser, Professor Wahiduddin Mahmud, for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the institution.

Reflecting on the significance of his appointment, he said, “We have attained our independence for the second time after making great sacrifices.

By honouring the spirit of these sacrifices, we must work together with sincerity to elevate our university to new heights. Only then will these sacrifices have truly been worthwhile.”

Professor Ahsan conveyed his confidence in elevating Jahangirnagar University to a position of distinction with the support of all stakeholders.

He emphasized the importance of quality education, fundamental research, and innovative work in contributing to the welfare of students, the country, and the nation as a whole.

He also urged everybody to get involved to cooperate fully in maintaining the university’s tradition, image, reputation, and dignity by ensuring a fair educational environment.

Following the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor paid tribute to the newly constructed anti-discrimination student movement martyr monument at the old Fazilatunnesa Hall area.

He also placed wreaths at the Shahid Minar and the National Memorial to honour the sacrifices of the nation's martyrs.
