Poet, author, and philosopher Farhad Mazhar has launched a new organisation called Jatiya Sangskritik Moitree (National Cultural Alliance), urging the nation, particularly its youth, to stay united in the fight against fascism.
While speaking at a poetry recital commemorating the July Mass Uprising, organised by Bangiya Sahitya Sabha at Bishwo Shahitto Kendro on Saturday, Mazhar said that the struggle against autocratic forces is far from over.
“We must remain vigilant. The fight against fascism continues,” he said.
Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Managing Director and Chief Editor Mahbub Morshed also spoke at the event, highlighting the significance of preserving the unity that led to the fall of the previous regime.
“We gained our victory through the sacrifices of countless martyrs. This unity must not be forgotten,” he said. Praising the youth for leading the resistance against the former Awami League government, Mazhar called for accountability for its ex-prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, whom he accused of committing violence and repression during her rule.
He warned that altering the national anthem could spark conflict, as it might give the impression that a fundamentalist government has taken control in Bangladesh. Mazhar also advocated for a strong coalition against both the Awami League and the Jamaat-e-Islami, emphasising the need for political reforms before the next national election.
