Bangladesh national football team physio Abu Sufian Sharker, also physio of Bashundhara Kings, set an example of unprecedented humanity on the football pitch by saving the life of a Bhutanese stretcher boy.

The incident happened on Thursday during the first of the two FIFA international football matches between Bangladesh and Bhutan at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu.

Bangladesh forward Rakib Hossain got a serious injury in his ankle in the last minute of the first half (45th minute).

Sufian, along with other supporting staff and stretcher boys, entered the ground and started to give primary medicare to Rakib.

But all of a sudden one of the four stretcher boys, who were around 23 years old, fainted. Considering the medical emergency, the Bangladeshi physio immediately started to give the Bhutanese boy CPR.

CPR or Cardiopulmonary resuscitation is an emergency medical procedure, consisting of chest compressions often combined with artificial ventilation, which is given when someone's breathing or heartbeat has stopped.

After more than 15 minutes, the stretcher boy became conscious and started to breathe. He was then immediately sent to the hospital and is currently under intensive care.

“Suddenly, I saw him (stretcher boy) fainted. I left Rakib vai and rushed to him and started to give CPR without any delay. After many attempts, I finally succeeded in bringing him back to consciousness. Then he was sent to the hospital,” Sufian told the reporters over the phone on Friday.

“I thought my biggest duty was to save his life at that moment. His condition was more serious than Rakib vai. I don’t know his name, it is not important to me. The important thing for me is to save him. I pray for his recovery,” he added.
