CMGG welcomes Bangladesh’s interim govt
Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain chairs the Commonwealth Ministerial Group on Guyana

Foreign ministers of the Commonwealth Ministerial Group on Guyana (CMGG) welcomed the interim government of Bangladesh at a high-level meeting held under the chairmanship of Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain.
Commonwealth Secretary-General Baroness Patricia Scotland praised Bangladesh’s diplomatic leadership in effective chairing of the CMGG and expressed Commonwealth’s sincere appreciation to Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain for agreeing to sustain Bangladesh’s chairmanship of this important ministerial group overseeing the territorial controversy between Venezuela and Guyana.
While Bangladesh chaired the meeting on 3 September, foreign ministers of Antigua and Barbuda, Canada, Guyana, Jamaica, South Africa, and the United Kingdom spoke at the meeting, read a press release.
The foreign adviser of Bangladesh also appraised the CMGG ministers that on 8 August a constitutional interim government led by Nobel laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus took office as the head of Government of Bangladesh at a juncture following a mass uprising of the people led by the valiant students for a discrimination-free Bangladesh.
The foreign adviser reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to the Commonwealth and its unequivocal support to the preservation of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Guyana, and Guyana’s efforts for peaceful settlement of territorial dispute with Venezuela.
