All-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz admitted on Tuesday that his positive mindset proved dividend for him in difficult conditions.

Mehidy played a crucial role in both the Test matches as his all-round contributions in both matches rescued Bangladesh from tough situations and set them up for a historic series win.

In the opening Test Mehidy rescued the tourists by hitting 77 runs and in the process formed a record 196-run stand with Mushfiqur Rahim for the eighth wicket to help the host earn a first-innings lead. Later he took four wickets with the ball in the second innings to set up a 30-run target for the batters that they chased down with 10 wickets in hand.

In the second Test, Mehidy claimed a five-wicket haul in the first innings to help them bowl out Pakistan for 274 and then formed the most crucial 165-run stand for the seventh wicket with Liton Kumer Das, who made 138, after coming to bat with Bangladesh struggling on 26-6 that helped them keep the first innings deficit to only 12 runs.

“I was a little bit nervous at that time( when I went to bat at 26/6) because you know sometimes when you’re going to bat I just discussed with my partner( Liton) and he just told me to keep quiet and play positively,” Mehidy told reporters at the post-match press conference.

“It’s not in our hands, we lost six wickets. You just try to get some good balls and try to get some runs on the scoreboard definitely we can come back,” he said.

“Actually, it’s not an easy job (to perform with bat and ball) and I always try to play positively,” said Mehidy.

“It’s been difficult to play on this surface. I just always at all times think positively, I never think negatively, because if you think negatively then you definitely cannot perform well in these conditions. So I just try to always get confidence,” he said.

Mehidy was joyous after being named the player-of-the-series, saying he will 'never forget this moment'. “I'm really happy, first time I have got a Man of the Series award away from home. I will never forget this moment," Mehidy said after Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by six wickets in the second Test in Rawalpindi today during the presentation.

“I just wanted to rotate the strike and enjoy batting with Mushfiqur [Rahim] and Liton Das. Really happy that I got five wickets, will try to bowl even better,” he said.

“I didn't play the T20 World Cup, I had some time back home and credit goes to the management back home and the efforts they have put in. The team is very happy with my performance, they keep supporting me. This is one of the happiest moments for me,” he concluded.
