The Ministry of Home Affairs has warned of taking legal action against those who will attempt to create instability in the country in various ways amid the ongoing situation.
In a warning notice issued on Tuesday, the home ministry also directed the authorities concerned not to arrest people immediately after a case is lodged without proper verification.
It is being observed with grave concern that a group of overzealous people are taking the law into their own hands and attempting to destabilise the country in the name of protest, said the notice.
Their actions include besieging institutions, forcing resignations, vandalism, arson attacks, illegal searches, looting, pressuring the police to accept cases and attacking the accused in courts, it added.
“In this context, the government wants to assure everyone that filing a case does not mean immediate arrest. Steps will be taken only after proper verification,” read the notice.
The interim government took charge of the state on 5 August following the student-people upsurge that ensured the complete overthrow of the authoritarian Awami League government.
The Awami League government used a huge force brutally to suppress the uprising, resulting in hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries.
Many people have been subjected to various tortures such as abduction, disappearance and extrajudicial killings during the long-term misrule of the government.
As a result, there is a lot of public anger towards the outgoing government and the interim government is determined to prosecute these abuses, said the notice.
