2 women held with 24 gold bars at Dhaka airport

Officials at the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) arrested two women along with 24 gold bars, weighing 2.784kg, from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Monday.

The arrestees were identified as Sonia Akter and Salma Begum.

A flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines landed at the airport from Dubai via Chattogram airport this morning, read a press release signed by CIID Deputy Director Mizanur Rahman.

Suspecting the movement of the two female passengers, customs officials challenged them and seized the gold bars from their handbags while passing the green channel.

The market value of the seized gold bars is Tk2.64 crore, the release read.

They were handed over to the Airport police station.
