Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto said on Sunday that Shakib Al Hasan can keep aside his personal life and perform in the field.
In the recent past there are lots of talks regarding Shakib’s future in international cricket after a murder case was filed against him.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Faruque Ahmed recently insisted that they will take a decision regarding Shakib’s future after the opening Test against Pakistan, which is likely to be announced today.
Shakib’s name was included in a murder case filed on Thursday (22 August) by Rafiqul Islam, the father of garment factory worker Rubel who was killed on 5 August in Dhaka's Adabor.
Following the accusation, Shajib Mahmood Alam, a lawyer of the Supreme Court, sent a legal notice to the BCB on Saturday through an email and registered post on behalf of Advocate Md Rafinur Rahman, asking for the removal of Shakib from all 'forms' of cricket with immediate effect.
Shakib hardly looked bothered by all the noises and seemed to be totally focused on his job at hand on the fifth day of the Test match and showed his character by picking up three wickets to help Bangladesh earn the historic win.
The left-arm spinner picked the important wicket of Abdullah Shafique and more importantly gave Bangladesh hope to create history by removing first-innings centurion Saud Shakeel as he fell for a four-ball duck trying to advance down the track. He was stumped off the left-arm spinner. Shakib also removed Naseem Shah to complete his spell with 3-44 in 17 overs where he bowled 16 overs on a trot.
“When he takes the field to represent the country, from what I understand, he is very dedicated as a person. He does everything that’s required to win. He pushes aside everything in his personal life to one side to think and focus on what he can do for the team, what he can do to help a junior cricketer and things like that. He can do these sorts of things in a unique way,” Najmul told reporters following the first Test.
“To be in a situation like that (being accused in a murder case) and still be able to bring out a performance like that and to give his inputs especially in bowling is outstanding. This is what we expect from him and hopefully, in the next game we are expecting something even better,” he said.
BCB will sit in a meeting today where they are expected to make a call on Shakib and if that is not the case, BCB directors will sit in a board meeting on 29 August where several decisions will be made including the fate of Shakib.
