The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced a five-day programme to commemorate its 46th founding anniversary, which falls on September 1.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the celebration plans during a press conference held at the party's Nayapaltan central office on Wednesday, following a joint meeting with its associate bodies.

The anniversary festivities will begin on August 31 with discussions held across all cities, districts, and upazilas. On September 1, the BNP flag will be hoisted at the Nayapaltan central office and other party offices nationwide.

Later that morning, BNP leaders will offer Fateha and lay wreaths at the grave of the party's founder, Ziaur Rahman, in Dhaka. The day will conclude with a cultural program organized by Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (JASAS) at the Central Shaheed Minar in the evening.

The celebrations will continue with rallies across cities, districts, and upazilas on September 2. On September 3, the party will release fish fries into water bodies throughout the country, followed by a tree plantation campaign on September 4.

In addition to the central events, BNP's associate bodies and regional units will organize their programmes to honour the founding anniversary. The party will also publish posters and special supplements to mark the occasion.

BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and joint secretary general Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anne were present at the press conference.

The BNP was founded on 1 September 1978 by Ziaur Rahman with a 19-point programme aimed at building a self-reliant Bangladesh. The party has since governed the country for several terms.
