A Dhaka court on Wednesday ordered the Tejgaon Police Station to file a first information report (FIR) and enlist ousted premier Sheikh Hasina, historian Muntasir Mamun and barrister Nijum Majumder as accused in the report over the murder of a student.

Forty-six others were also ordered to be named as accused for the killing of Touhidul Haque, a university admission aspirant, during the student-led movement to oust Sheikh Hasina-led government.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nurul Huda Chowdhury passed the order for filing a lawsuit after receiving an application in this regard from Tariqul Alam, elder brother of the victim.

Former road transport minister Obaidul Quader, former law minister Anisul Haque, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Hasina’s former adviser Salman F Rahman, former foreign minister Hasan Mahmud, former lawmaker Shahjahan Khan as well as a number of other prominent Awami League leaders were also accused in the case.

As per the complaint, the total 49 persons accused in the case ordered about 2,300 police personnel and Awami League activists to fire on student protesters at Farmgate area on 4 August.

Touhidul Haque died after sustaining bullet injuries during the clashes.
