A writ petition has been filed at the High Court seeking a ban on the Awami League and cancellation of its registration due to the party's involvement in the indiscriminate killings of protesters during the Anti-discrimination Student Movement.
Arifur Rahman Murad Bhuiyan, executive director of rights organisation Sarada Society, filed the petition on Monday.
The hearing on this petition might take place before the bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Muhammad Mahbub Ul Islam.
The petition named the secretary of the Cabinet Division, chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission, secretary of the law ministry, secretary of the Election Commission, secretary of the Financial Institutions Division, chairman of the National Board of Revenue, governor of the Bangladesh Bank, head of the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit, and the coordinators of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement as respondents.
Arifur Rahman said the petition also requested a directive to extend the tenure of the current interim government to a minimum of three years and to recover Tk11 lakh crore embezzled abroad.
