The interim government has removed all Upazila Chairmen (493) and 323 municipality mayors from their respective positions across the country.

The Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNO) will take over the responsibilities of the removed Upzila chairmen.

These chairmen and mayors were elected during the tenure of the Awami League government. 

The Local Government Division issued gazette notifications in this regard on Sunday.

Most of the Chairmen and mayors went into hiding after former prime minister Sheikh Hasina fled the county on 5 August.
