The police have arrested former prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s private industry and investment adviser Salman Fazlur Rahman and former law minister Anisul Huq.

Confirming the matter on Tuesday, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Mainul Hassan said they were arrested in a case filed with the New Market police station.

Based on a tip-off, they were apprehended while trying to flee on waterways in the capital’s Sadarghat area, said DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Faruk Hossain.

Salman Rahman and Anisul Huq were also elected lawmakers from the Awami League in the 12th parliamentary election held on 7 January.

On 5 August, Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of prime minister and fled Bangladesh to India amid a mass uprising led by students. Since then, many of her cabinet members and Awami League MPs have gone into hiding.
