The public holiday on August 15, which marks National Mourning Day, is likely to be canceled, according to a Ministry of Public Administration source.
The holiday will be revoked following an order of President Shahbuddin Ahmed, and a draft of the gazette to this effect has already been finalised, the source said.
Meanwhile, Home Adviser Brig Gen (Rtd) M Sakhawat Hossain said that a meeting of all advisers is scheduled for this afternoon, where the issue will be discussed in detail.
After visiting the injured BGB members receiving treatment at the Pilkhana headquarters hospital, he said that there would be a significant deployment of police, BGB, and Rapid Action Battalion to prevent any subversive activities on that day.
“We will ensure all necessary security measures. The army might also be deployed on the day,” he added.
Earlier on Monday, several leaders of different political parties, including BNP held a meeting with Dr Mohammad Yunus, chief of the interim government, and placed their opinions to cancel the public holiday.
