The High Court on Monday ordered the authorities concerned not to collect tolls from ambulances carrying patients on roads, highways, bridges, and flyovers across the country.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Md Bazlur Rahman passed the order after holding a hearing on a writ petition filed in this regard.
Advocate Md Monir Uddin moved the plea before the court.
According to the petition, stopping an ambulance carrying a patient to collect tolls is an inhumane act as every second is crucial for a patient.
In some cases, patients are left stranded at the toll plazas, causing their deaths before the ambulance can reach the hospital, it said.
