Food inflation rises by 14.10% in a year

Annual consumer price growth hit highest in 13 years in July reaching 11.66% from the same month last year, according to Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) data released Monday.
Compared with prices of goods in June, July’s prices rose by 2.17%.
Student-led protests against government policies and heavy-handed measures adopted by authorities, including curfews, disrupted supply chains across the country, resulting in price hikes.
In July’s inflation rate, food prices made the biggest contribution rising by 14.10%, while prices of non-food items rose 9.68%.
Notably, the last highest annual inflation was recorded in 2011 at 10.92%.
