Two rival groups of BNP could not hold their scheduled programmes in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna on Tuesday following the imposition of Section 144.
The local administration slapped the ban on holding any gathering in Dasuria MM High School ground and its surrounding area for six hours as two rival factions of BNP called their programmes at the same venue and same time for Tuesday afternoon, reports UNB.
Rafiqul Islam Selim, Ishwardi upazila nirbahi officer, made the announcement on behalf of the district administration.
Locals said the two BNP groups -- one led by central assistant information and research secretary Habibur Rahman Habib and the other by upazila unit president Shamsuddin Malitha -- convened the programmes in the run-up to the biennial conference of upazila BNP.
Later, the administration imposed the Section 144 for six hours from 3:30pm to 9:30pm to maintain the law and order, said Bimal Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Ishwardi Police Station.
