The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement has issued an ultimatum to the interim government to appoint High Court judge Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed as the Chief Justice by 6 pm on Saturday.  

Hasnat Abdullah, one of the coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, issued the ultimatum after speculation arose that the interim government has appointed Ashfaqul Islam, a judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, as the Acting Chief Justice.

Describing, Ashfaqul Islam as an associate of the fascism, Hasnat said both students and the countrymen rejected him as the chief justice.

Claiming that the Chief Justice was forced to step down due to the student movement, Hasnat said there is information that the interim government has appointed Ashfaqul Islam as the Chief Justice.

“It will be a matter of the great regret if Ashfaqul is appointed as the Chief Justice as this very person has been serving the interests of the deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the past 15 years,” said Hasnat.

Beside based on information, the Law Ministry assured the people that it has not appointed Ashfaqul Islam as the Chief Justice.
