Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan has resigned, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Prof Asif Nazrul said on Saturday afternoon.

Obaidul Hassan's decision to resign followed an ultimatum issued by the students of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on Saturday, demanding that the Chief Justice and all Appellate Division justices step down by 1:00 pm.

At 11:00 AM, the protesting students gathered at the High Court premises to press their demands.

In response, Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan decided to step down from his position by Saturday evening.

“I will submit my resignation letter to the President after completing some formalities,” he told newsmen at the Supreme Court premises.
