Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan has said that he will resign by this evening, following a discussion with President Mohammed Shahabuddin.

He confirmed the matter to journalists on Saturday noon.

Obaidul Hassan’s decision to resign came after a protest by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at the High Court premises, where they demanded the resignation of the Appellate Division judges, including the Chief Justice.

Earlier on Thursday, pro-BNP lawyers issued a 24-hour ultimatum for the resignation of all justices of the Appellate Division, including the Chief Justice of Bangladesh.
