Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) physio Bayjedul Islam said on Saturday that pace bowler Taskin Ahmed can play Test by managing workload.

The right-arm pacer took a break from Test cricket due to his shoulder injury and decided to concentrate on white-ball cricket.

However, Taskin is eyeing a Test return after playing the ICC T20 World Cup and the recently-concluded Lanka Premier League (LPL) without being troubled.

Taskin began his Test preparation from 30 July and was also included in the preparation camp designed with probable Test members who began their training at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium with a fitness test for the upcoming Test series against Pakistan, scheduled from 21 August.

“Taskin has played in the T20 format as of late. So, he did not bowl for long spells during this period. He had a shoulder issue, which he even got rechecked during the T20 World Cup [in the USA and the West Indies in June],” Bayjedul said following the session.

“The thing is, the damage he had at that time, is exactly the same now as it has not aggravated,” he added.

“A player can play by managing these [types of injuries]. If he continues his rehabilitation and the workouts, Taskin can survive. Based on that, Taskin is definitely available [for Test],” the physio said.

“But as for bowling workload in Tests where you need to bowl longer spells, a player needs to get up to that speed. So, he will try to do that and if he feels better, he can definitely play in Tests,” he said, adding that overall fitness has improved.

“Everyone tried to touch the benchmark of the strength test and they have improved,” he concluded.
