Thousands of demonstrators have now come up with their one-point demand for the resignation of the Awami League-led government.

Nahid Islam, one of the coordinators of the Anti-discrimination Students’ Movement, made the announcement at a massive rally held at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon.

He said the prime minister and her cabinet members must resign immediately accepting the students’ demand.

An all-out non-cooperation movement would continue from Sunday to realise their sole demand, he added.

Earlier in the day, hundreds of thousands of people from all walks of life congregated around the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka to express solidarity with students protesting against the killings by attacking their peaceful movement and to press home their nine-point charter of demands.

They chanted various slogans including the demand for justice for those who were killed in the quota reform movement.

On Saturday noon, students blocked roads at the Science Lab intersection, proceeding through Nilkhet and the Dhaka University campus before gathering at the Central Shaheed Minar, the spot that already turned into a sea of people.

With the passage of time, more protesters marched towards the Shaheed Minar with demonstrators blocking various roads.

One-point Declaration

The Anti-discrimination Students’ Movement, a platform for quota protest, sent a press release to the media describing their one-point declaration.

According to the release, since the government ordered a massacre and is arresting and torturing students and citizens as well as the vast majority of people believe that an impartial trial and investigation is not possible under the government, the platform announced a one-point demand for the resignation of the government.

At the same time, the platform demanded the formation of an inclusive national government under the leadership of an individual acceptable to all.
