Reporters issue 48-hr ultimatum demanding justice for slain colleagues

Reporters have given authorities 48 hours to identify and book the culprits behind the killings of four colleagues during the recent quota reform movement, CRAB Joint General Secretary Dipon Dewan said Friday, warning strong protests would be staged if the deadline is not met.

The leader from the Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) issued the ultimatum, on behalf of his colleagues, at a human chain called by reporters demanding security assurance for them, at the capital’s Kawran Bazar intersection on Friday noon.

One photojournalist related to his own on-duty experience at the capital’s Mirpur-10 area, where he faced repeated attacks from ruling party’s men.

Another journalist claimed the state has not enquired after the well-being of media workers, and not even felt the need to do so, even though four were killed and many other injured during the recent jobs quota reform movement.

He further said that journalists are currently living in a state of constant fear and trauma, asking authorities, “When this situation would be resolved?”
