Teachers from different universities held a rally on the Dhaka University (DU) campus on Thursday protesting the attack on their colleagues and the indiscriminate killing and detention of students across the country.

At around 11:30am, the teachers, under the banner of 'Nipironer Birodhi Shikkhak Somabesh' (Anti-Repression Teachers Rally), began the protest rally at the base of the Aparajeyo Bangla on the DU campus.

Earlier, teachers from the Public Administration Department of DU also organised a rally at around 10:00am, followed by another rally by the Economics Department teachers of the university at 11:00 am with the same demand.

Teachers were seen delivering speeches at the protest rally in the rain.

They said that the government is unable to deliver justice for the killings of the students and people during quota reform movement.

"We cannot seek justice for beheadings from the sword. The police force, which has killed ordinary students and citizens, belongs to the government, so the government cannot deliver justice. These incidents must be tried under United Nations supervision," they said.

They also demand the resignation of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina voluntarily."

The teachers also said, "Those who protest are labelled with various tags. This must stop. Educational institutions must be reopened. This government will not provide justice for the murderers because they are the perpetrators themselves."

On 29 July, teachers from different universities held a rally demanding the release of students detained during the quota reform movement and the immediate reopening of educational institutions.
