Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has categorically said that it will not allow anyone to indulge in arrest trade in the name of release the detainees.
“We will withdraw law enforcers from duty and prosecute them if evidence of demanding money from detainees or their families for their release is found,” Biplob Kumar Sarker, joint commissioner (operations) of the DMP, said while addressing a press conference at the DMP headquarters on Tuesday.
Claiming that Greftar banijya (arrest trade) is a very old term, he said that everyone has been warned about it since the DMP launched the block raid.
“If any such allegation is brought against any responsible officer, he or she will be withdrawn and also face the highest legal action,” he said.
