Teachers from different universities have expressed their full support on the demands of the protesting students of the quota reform movement, condemning acts of violence and harassment against them.

"These students have paved the way for writing a new history. We support every demand of the students," Saeed Ferdous, Professor of Anthropology at Jahangirnagar University said while addressing an event on Dhaka University campuses.

At the event, the teachers also called the incidents of violence and death during the protests as the 'July Massacre'.

They called for an end to the harassment of students through killings, disappearances, and mass arrests, and demanded the release of those detained.

Saeed Ferdous said, "Students are not your opponents. These students are here to change the fabric of Bangladesh. Over the past five decades, educational institutions and the state have faced continuous chaos and systematic oppression by ruling student organizations."

He urged the authorities to hold accountable those responsible for the students' deaths, including officials, leaders, and law enforcement personnel.

He also called for the restoration of a conducive learning environment in universities, prioritizing the cessation of killings and abductions.

Prof Abdul Hasib Chowdhury of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) recalled the martyrdom of Professor Shamsuzzoha in 1969.

"We are the successors of Shaheed Shamsuzzoha, and the students fighting against discrimination today are the successors of freedom fighters. History dictates our actions, and we must fulfill our responsibilities," he said.

Nasir Uddin Ahmed, Associate Professor of English at Jagannath University, criticized the filing of cases against students.

He urged the authorities to reopen the universities and allow students to resume their studies, advocating for a return to democratic processes.

During the rally, a moment of silence was observed to honour the deceased, referring to them as 'martyrs.'
