With the dream of becoming an engineer in mind, Soumir Munna studied software engineering at a private university in the capital. After graduation, he just joined a software company to take the helm of the family. However, Munna's parents are now crying next to their bullet-stricken son.
He lies on the bed of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital amid commotion.
During a visit to the hospital, it was found that several people, who suffered gunshot wounds during the recent clashes surrounding the quota reform movement, are being treated on the fourth floor of the hospital.
According to Munna's mother, his son left home in the evening on 19 July to buy food.
Meanwhile, members of the security forces opened fire on protesters in the capital's Basila area.
Sensing a terrible situation, Munna returned to his residence, but on the way, he was shot in the waist.
He is now being treated at the hospital for a fracture in his waist.
His mother said Munna's father struggled to help his son despite difficulties in managing the family's income from teaching at a school in Manirampur, Jashore.
Meanwhile, Ansar members, who worked at the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Company Limited in Rayerbagh, were attacked by protesting students.
Ansar member Rabiul Alam is being treated at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for numerous injuries.
He told the Daily Sun that he had undergone 25-30 stitches in his body.
When the protesting students were attacked by Kadamtali police, they got angry and attacked the 12 Ansar members there, he added.
Of these, 10 Ansar members have been found in the hospital so far, while the rest two have remained missing, he further said.
A hospital security official said more than 600 injured people have come here for treatment.
Another security member at the hospital, requesting anonymity, told the Daily Sun that he has seen more than 600 patients to come to the hospital with gunshot wounds in two days.
An internal doctor, who asked not to be named, said he saw a number of bodies coming out of the hospital's mortuary, but the number could not be confirmed.
