State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and ICT Zunaid Ahmad Palak has said all the social media including Facebook and TikTok will be closed for the time being.
Palak made the announcement at a press conference at the BTRC Bhaban on Wednesday afternoon.
The State Minister said that Facebook and YouTube are not obeying the laws of Bangladesh in any way. They don't even follow their own policies. Facebook is an American company. They follow the laws of that country's government (USA) but not the policies of our country.
Palak also said that broadband internet services could be fully restored across the country by tonight.
“We are trying our level best to fully resume the broadband internet services across the country by tonight,” he said.
Asked when mobile internet services could be resumed, the state minister said a meeting is scheduled for Friday/Saturday with the Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB), and attempts will be taken to resume the services by Sunday.
