Quota protesters issue ultimatum to Grameenphone to restore internet by 10am Friday

Quota protesters have issued an ultimatum to the Grameenphone authorities to restore smooth internet services by 10:00am Friday.

They issued this ultimatum following one and half hour sit-in in front of the Grameenphone Corporate Headquarters in Kuril-Baridhara area in the capital. 

They started the blockade at 6:00 pm and left the place around 7:30pm, according to our correspondent on the scene.

Several hundred protesters took part in the sit-in demanding a restoration of internet service that has been disrupted since last night amid the nationwide quota protest.

The telecom regulator described the blackout of signal and data connectivity as an “unusual” incident and “national emergency” respectively.

In a press briefing on Thursday afternoon, the senior executives of the joint venture public limited company said their network was disrupted when the fibre optic cables were severed near three government-sanctioned project sites simultaneously.
