Students at Dhaka University (DU) have announced a protest procession on the campus demanding reform of the quota system in government jobs this noon, hours after they staged another demonstration citing that they had been humiliated.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) has announced a sit-in protest at 3 pm today to condemn what they consider an insult to the spirit of the Liberation War.

Both events are scheduled to be held in front of the Raju Memorial Sculpture on the university campus.

Following remarks made by the Prime Minister during a press conference about the ongoing anti-quota movement on Sunday, students from different dormitories of DU came out with processions and gathered on the Raju Memorial Sculpture premises.

The protesters chanted various slogans demanding quota system reform, including “We wanted rights, but became Rajakar (traitors),” and “One, two, three, four, we are all Rajakars.”

Students in different university campuses including Jahangirnagar University and Chittagong University also brought out processions last night on the same issue.

During the press conference about her visit to China, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in response to a journalist's question, said, “Should the grandchildren of freedom fighters get jobs or the grandchildren of Rajakars?”
