Bangladesh women’s national cricketer Rabeya Khan believed that it would be better for them to have Mushtaq Ahmed as their trainer.
Mushtaq joined the men’s national team as a spin bowling consultant before the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 and guided them in the showpiece event.
And Bangladesh got a promising leg-spinner Rishad Hossain who hogged the spotlight picking 14 wickets during the shorter format of the global event under Mushtaq’s impressive guidelines. But the former Pakistani spinner joined England U-19s as a spin consultant as he had previously given commitment to England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
“Yes, obviously, it [If Mushtaq trains] will be great for us, when the world cup [men’s T20 WC] was going on, we leg spinners were talking that if Mushtaq comes to train us then it will be really beneficial for us,” Rabeya told reporters after a training session at the BCB Academy on Sunday.
“It feels good, the competition is getting tougher, it will be even better if more leg-spinners are introduced, it will increase the level of competition and we will be able to understand where we stand.”
Rabeya further added that the leg-spinners including herself, Rumana Ahmed and Shorna Akhter had no specific role in the national team, rather they just tried to bowl according to the situation of the match and tried to improve day by day.
“If you say about the role [of leg-spinners], not everyone plays all the matches, so whenever someone is playing in a match they try to play with perfection, they try to do better all the time and everyone is dedicated towards that,” said Rabeya.
“Every bowler goes for wicket and to give dots, so there are no specific criteria that someone will be a wicket-taker or someone will be an economical bowler, so everyone bowls from their place and the wicket depends on luck,” she concluded.
