The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has penalised Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) with a fine five times greater than the sum the water management company spent for digging roads without permission.

A DSCC document said that the city authority imposed a fine on WASA under section 1.3.5 (E) of Road Excavation Policy-2019 for digging a road adjacent to the Shaheed Abdul Alim playground at Lalbagh area.

DSCC estimated the cost of digging 16.53-square metre road, along with additional 50% road digging fee for monsoon season, to be worth total Tk2.38 lakh.

However, DWASA has to pay Tk13.71 lakh, where the fine is Tk11.92 lakh and VAT is Tk1.78 lakh.

DSCC Executive Engineer Mithun Chandra Shill wrote a letter on 8 July asking for the payment to the executive engineer (Maintenance) for Saidabad Water Treatment Plant.
