Students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) have expressed their solidarity with the nationwide quota reform movement.

At 12:30 pm on Tuesday, some 120-140 students from the country’s renowned engineering university formed a human chain in front of the Shahid Minar on the campus to show their support for the movement.

During the human chain, the BUET students remained silent, refraining from speaking or chanting any slogans against the quota system. However, they issued a press release to clear their stance.

"Thirty percent quota for freedom fighters was reasonable, as they faced severe hardships during and after the war. However, their successors did not experience those hardships. So, it is urgent to reform the quota system considering the current situation," read the press release.

"Besides, a 10% quota for women is very degrading to women’s prestige. This quota should also be reformed," it added.
