Govt to import 1,000MW renewable electricity from India: Nasrul

Bangladesh is planning to import 1,000 MW of renewable electricity from India to meet the local demand, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said on Thursday.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has already been signed to make the efforts successful, the junior minister said while talking to reporters at his ministry office in Dhaka this afternoon.

The energy will be connected to the national grid very soon, the state minister expressed his optimism.

Besides, an agreement is underway to be signed with Nepal to bring 40 MW of electricity from the country.

Apart from this, the government is engaged in hatching initiatives to import electricity from Bhutan to meet the local demand, Nasrul said.
