Testimony in Pori Moni's drug case scheduled for 28 July

A Dhaka court has fixed 28 July for taking the testimony of film actress Pori Moni in the Narcotics Control Act case filed with Banani Police Station.

On Monday, Judge Mohammad Nazrul Islam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-10 was scheduled to take evidence in court.

His lawyer Nilanjana Surabhi Rifat appeared on behalf of Pori Moni and sought time for postponement of the evidence-taking due to the unavailability of the High Court order copy in the case.

Besides, two other accused appeared in court. The court then fixed 28 July for further proceedings.

Earlier on 12 May 2022, Pori Moni's lawyer applied for a waiver of personal appearance. Then, on 2 June, the court waived Pori Moni's personal appearance.

On 4 August 2021, RAB arrested Pori Moni from her residence in Banani. New drug LSD, alcohol were seized in the raid. A large quantity of alcohol bottles were seized from his drawing room cupboard, showcase, dining room, bedside table, and toilet.

The next day, on 5 August, RAB filed a case under the Narcotics Control Act against three, including Pori Moni, at the capital's Banani Police Station.

After the investigation, on 4 October 2021, the investigating officer of the case, Inspector Kazi Mustafa Kamal of the CID, filed a charge sheet against three people, including Pori Moni.

Then, on 5 January 2022, the court rejected the exemption plea of the three accused, including Pori Moni, and ordered the trial to begin by framing charges.
