The Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) has launched a shuttle bus service in the capital’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to provide baggage service to incoming passengers.

Road Transport and Bridge Minister Obaidul Quader inaugurated the shuttle bus service in a formal ceremony at the airport on Wednesday. During the inauguration, he said the shuttle bus service will make the journey easier for passengers.

Each passenger can avail of the service at Tk20 only. The fair will be Tk50 for passengers having additional luggage.

BRTC Chairman Md Tajul Islam said two special shuttle buses were initially prepared with the BRTC’s own technical expertise at the integrated central repair factory in Gazipur.

Initially, two buses will operate from the airport to Jasimuddin Road in Uttara. “This will reduce transportation difficulties for passengers. Later, the bus service will be extended further.”

The buses will start from Airport Terminal 2 and travel through the airport roundabout, Jasimuddin Road, Airport Railway Station, and Airport Terminal 3, then return to Airport Terminal 2 via the roundabout.

Although the service is starting with two buses, the BRTC plans to increase the number of buses later on.

The organisation stated that this bus service has been launched at the airport to facilitate the travel and luggage transportation of expatriates, domestic and foreign tourists and general passengers.

The air-conditioned buses have ample luggage transport facilities, security systems, free Wi-Fi, and special boarding and alighting arrangements for the elderly and people with special needs.

The bus service was launched for passengers immediately after its inauguration.
