The prices of green chillies, cucumbers and carrots increased at kitchen markets in the capital on Friday.
Traders claimed that the supply crunch has pushed up the price of essential commodities in the markets.
During visit to several kitchen markets at Mirpur 6, 11, 12, 12, Shewrapara and Mohammadpur on Friday, it was seen that green chillies were being sold at Tk340–350 per kg.
The price of green chillies was Tk320 per kg on 15 June, Tk250 per kg on 14 June and Tk120–160 per kg on 7 June.
Anisul Islam, a vegetable trader at Mirpur 13, said, “We buy green chillies from Karwan Bazar wholesale market. The price of chillies in the wholesale market has increased as supply is yet to increase due to the Eid festival."
Cucumber was sold at Tk100–120 per kg, while carrots cost Tk100–140 per kg.
The price of cucumber and carrot has increased to Tk140–160 per kg per day ahead of Eid.
On 14 June, the price for cucumbers was Tk80 per kg and for carrots, Tk120 per kg.
Onion prices remained at last week's high level of Tk90 per kg, and potatoes remained at Tk60 per kg.
The prices of broiler chicken fell from Tk185–190 per kg to Tk180–185 per kg in a week, and the price of Sonali chicken fell from Tk320–340 per kg to Tk310 per kg in a week.
The price of farm eggs declined to Tk150–160 per kg from Tk170-180 in a week.
