Curtain falls on ‘Smriti Satta Bhabishyat’
Mir Mosharraf Hossain, Humayun Ahmed remembered on the concluding day

Smriti Satta Bhabishyat, a discussion and cultural programme on the life and work of 62 prominent cultural personalities, concluded in the city on Wednesday. The Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy-organised 20-day event was held from 24 May to 12 June.
On the concluding day, eminent novelist, playwright, and essayist Mir Mosharraf Hossain and popular fiction writer, educationist, film director and producer Humayun Ahmed were remembered. The programme was held at the academy’s National Music and Dance Centre on Wednesday evening.
At the beginning of the programme, a 10-minute special documentary film on the life and work of Mir Mosharraf Hossain was shown. Later an essay titled “Bishad Sindhu by Mir Mosharraf: An Observation” was read by playwright and professor at Rabindra University Tanvir Ahmed Sydney.
In the second part of the programme, a special documentary on Humayun Ahmed was screened. After that, distinguished essayist and former professor of Dhaka University Dr. Masuduzzaman read the article titled “Humayun Ahmed: Jonopriota Shilper Shotru-Mitra”.
Mir Mosharraf Hossain is considered to be the first major writer to emerge from the Muslim society of Bengal and one of the finest prose writers in the Bengali language. His magnum opus “Bishad Sindhu” is a popular classic among the Bengali readership.
On the other hand, Humayun Ahmed is one of the most celebrated authors in modern Bengali literature. His breakthrough was his debut novel “Nondito Noroke” published in 1972. He wrote over 200 fiction and non-fiction books. He was one of the most popular authors and filmmakers in post-independence Bangladesh.
