Five female students were injured after a woman armed with a knife went on a rampage in Jamalpur Girls High School at Sadullahpur upazila in Gaibandha on Tuesday.

The attacker, Jannati Akhter, 21, the wife of Ashiq Mia of Goyeshpur village in Jamalpur union, was held and taken to Sadullahpur Police Station.

Of the injured, three students—Setu, Mitu, and Rabeya—were admitted to the Upazila Health Complex, while the other two were given first aid.

Setu sustained a knife attack in her left hand, Mitu in the back and Rabeya in two legs and head.

The injured are the students of class VI of the school.

At about 10:00 am, the students were in the class while some were on the veranda.

Just then, the woman with a knife entered the class room and attacked the students.

Seeing the scene, other students rescued their classmates and held the woman.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadullahpur Police Station Mohammad Shafiqul Islam told the Daily Sun that they arrested the woman and were interrogating her.

A case was underway against her, he added.

In response to a question if the woman is mentally imbalanced, the OC said that they do not think so after talking to her.
