The holy Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated in Bangladesh on 17 June (Monday). The celebration will be preceded by a three-day holiday, encompassing the Friday-Saturday weekend and Sunday, on 14, 15, and 16 June, respectively. As a result, banks will be closed during this period.
However, in a notification, Bangladesh Bank (BB) announced measures to facilitate the payment of salaries and bonuses to workers, employees, and officials in the garment industry, as well as to aid in the sale of export bills. To accommodate these needs, banks in industry-related areas have been instructed to remain open on a limited scale during the holiday period.
The notification stated that bank branches in Dhaka metropolitans, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Bhaluka, and Narayanganj will be kept open on a limited scale on 14-16 June to make payment of garment workers' wages, bonuses, and other allowances.
Besides, the BB has instructed banks to keep open their branches in Chattogram metropolitan and industrial areas to facilitate the payment of garment workers and receive export bills.
To ensure security, the central bank has also mandated that banks coordinate with local administration to arrange adequate security measures in the open bank branches.
