Jahangirnagar University, the popular natural scenery destination, is suffering a sudden and rapid hit to its reputation with over 100 trees being felled on Sunday to make for just two buildings.

The Fine Arts Faculty building and an extension of the New Arts faculty building would be constructed on the site of the felled trees.

The Chhatra Union unit of the university has already staged instant demonstrations against the arbitrary and self-destructive move.

Trees are crucial to limiting the impact of climate change, and their role in urban surroundings was felt more acutely during the year’s first heat wave.

Jahangirnagar University’s tree foliage is a major contributor for easing heat wave’s intensity in nearby areas.

Some teachers and students have informed reporters that the new building construction is being done without a comprehensive plan.
