Raising a question on how former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed fled the country, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the government has turned the country into an empire of plunderers’.

“Not only former Army Chief Aziz Ahmed and IGP Benazir Ahmed, but also the government has given birth to several corrupted individuals and they have turned the country into a safe haven for the looters   

“The government has not only given birth to former Army Chief Aziz Ahmed and IGP Benazir Ahmed, but it has also nurtured several corrupt individuals and they have turned the country into a safe haven for looters,” he said.

While addressing a programme at the National Press Club in Dhaka, Fakhrul referring to media report said Benazir along with his family members left the country on 4 May after transferring around Tk 60 crore from his bank account and now staying in Singapore.

“Now it is a matter of question how he left the country,” Fakhrul said.   

Referring to Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader’s recent comment that no one will be spared, Fakhrul said, “There is no scope to treat people as foolish. Everyone knows your tricks.”
