Md Nayeemul Islam Khan, the emeritus editor of the Bangla daily, Amader Notun Shomoy, has been named as the new press secretary to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) sent a note to the Ministry of Public Administration on 28 May for issuing a gazette notification in this regard.

According to the PMO note, Nayeemul’s contractual appointment (in the rank of secretary) has been approved by the authorities concerned.

With a fixed salary of Tk78,000 and other government benefits, he will perform his duty for the duration of the prime minister's tenure or as per her satisfaction, it added.
